Stop it, counterfeiters!

This wish will probably not come true so quickly. On the invitation of Mahle Aftermarket the annual meeting of the “Brand Protection Working Group” hosted by AAMPACT and CLEPA took place on March 4th in Stuttgart.
Brand experts from different participating companies were able to report about several trademark violations, patent infringements and counterfeits. It is surprising to hear that Turkey is increasingly mentioned as the place of origin and trading centre for counterfeits.
Another integral part of the agenda is the upcoming Automechanika with its thousands of exhibitors from Asian countries. The cooperation with Messe Frankfurt will cover the common subject “Messe Frankfurt against copying” and the observation of registered companies with regard to cases of counterfeiting that have already occurred.
In an interesting presentation on Russian trademark law, Taras Derkatsch and Prof. Dr. Andreas Steininger from the law firm Beiten Burkhardt in Moscow informed about the remarkable progress in the Russian legal system.
Before the participants parted ways again, they agreed on a date for the next project group meeting: Wednesday,  May 5th 2021 at Messe Frankfurt.
CLEPA announced its next "Counterfeit Day" for January 2021 and Dr. Daniel Dünnebacke from "OneIdentity+" reported on the great progress the company has made in opening up to other markets and new business areas beyond the automotive aftermarket.
